Walls

Keith Sanford

Stands a mighty fortress with a wall that's made of stone
Inside a book of deeds and rules declares a sacred creed
Some worship the stones, to keep what they own
When standing firm inside the wall, there everyone agrees

But, sometimes I wonder why there are so many walls
And I'm hoping that we can try, someday, to let them all fall

Once a brilliant light came shining far beyond the wall
But safe inside the sturdy fort, they held to what they knew
Judgment and gall, they heard not the call
Proclaiming laws of justice that they all believed were true

But, sometimes I wonder why there are so many walls
And I'm hoping that we can try, someday, to let them all fall

Find a pile of broken stones where a wall did stand
A monument of hope that shatters ancient boundary lines
Peace close at hand, for all the land
Stepping out into the open where the light can shine

And, sometimes I wonder why there are so many walls
And I'm hoping that we can try, someday, to let them all fall
